Until 2020, I was President of Casa, a venture-backed, direct-to-consumer Bitcoin technology company with a fully distributed team.

I joined the company pre-revenue as Head of Business Operations, was promoted to Head of Finance and Operations including HR and once more to President. By the time I left 18 months later, I’d helped them achieve a milestone revenue figure, grow their customer base into the thousands, develop the capability to manufacture and ship product to 50+ countries, and double the number of employees with zero attrition.

This was achieved in an entirely remote capacity by a workforce located across ten states and three countries. While unusual for a pre-Coronavirus time, fully distributed teams are now the reality for the majority of businesses. Remote work is here to stay.

In a three-part series, I’ll break down exactly how we were successful.

Part Two: Performance Management and Part Three: Onboarding New Remote Employees will be released next.

Part One: Leadership and Culture
